Following the success of its first global tour, young pipers and drummers from across the world are being called upon to join The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s esteemed house band, Pipers Trail. The recruitment appeal, which offers young people the opportunity to tour with the band and perform at international occasions throughout the year, including the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo, comes following the completion of the band’s recent successful expeditions where they took in first-time visits to Germany, Norway, Czech Republic and China.

This year’s Pipers Trail at the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo in August included a large Australian contingent.

Special President’s Commendations will be awarded to 14 bands by Pipe Bands Australia recognising their outstanding commitment to achievement and engagement in 2018.

The commendations represent fine examples within the Australian pipe band movement of initiative, creativity and preparedness to promote our music to large audiences in local communities and internationally while also engaging future generations of pipers and drummers.

Australian pipers and drummers will form a strong contingent at this year’s Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Four Pipe Bands Australia bands – Royal Victoria Regiment Association, Manly Warringah, The Scotch College Perth and Brisbane Boys’ College – will form five files in the massed pipes and drums.

And the Tattoo’s Pipers’ Trail comprising players from around the world will include 11 Australians in its team of 50.

REMT chief executive and producer Brigadier David Allfrey MBE said: “This is extraordinary. A great Australian showing.”

Would you like to play at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo? Continuing on from the success of Pipers Trail at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (REMT), Stevie Small wriiting on behalf of the Producer, Brigadier David Allfrey MBE, has invited applications for the 2018 show ‘The Sky’s the Limit’.

Australians pipers and drummers have joined musicians from around the world as part of Pipers Trail at the Tattoo in recent years. And if successful in gaining a spot in 2018, they will join Australian bands Brisbane Boys' College and 5/6 Royal Victoria Regiment performing on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.
