Australian registrations open for The Battle's Over
Online registration has opened for Pipe Bands Australia bands and members preparing to participate in The Battle’s Over on Sunday 11 November, part of the international commemoration on the centenary of the Armistice in World War One.
The Australian participation at 5pm (Australian Eastern Summer Time) will coincide with the exact time the Armistice was signed and link simultaneously with performances of the famous tune The Battle’s O’er in Britain and across Europe.
Co-ordination of the time follows discussions between Pipe Bands Australia and the Glasgow-based College of Piping assisting Bruno Peek in spearheading the international commemoration.
Australian pipers, drummers and bands are being encouraged to liaise with their local RSLs, council and other community organisations in selecting suitable locations for the special commemoration.
Playing of The Battle’s Over may be by solo pipers, groups of pipers and drummers or full bands. Members are asked to register online at www.pipebandsaustralia.com.au/events and with the College of Piping website.
Pipe Bands Australia will provide special commemorative certificates to all members who perform on 11 November 2018 – the final day of Centenary of ANZAC activities - in honour of those pipers and drummers who served in World War One, and particularly those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
