Commendations for achievements of our bands
Special President’s Commendations will be awarded to 14 bands by Pipe Bands Australia recognising their outstanding commitment to achievement and engagement in 2018.
The commendations represent fine examples within the Australian pipe band movement of initiative, creativity and preparedness to promote our music to large audiences in local communities and internationally while also engaging future generations of pipers and drummers.
St Andrew’s Caledonian Pipe Band Launceston for the 20th season of its Celtic Force stage production touring northern Tasmania to large crowds.
Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band for the establishment and growth of its education and training initiative Greater Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming that has gained capacity enrolments.
City of Adelaide Pipe Band who assisted and continue to resource the establishment and achieve growth and engagement through the Gracenotes Academy of Piping and Drumming.
Rats of Tobruk Memorial Pipes and Drums Melbourne for its appearance in the 2018 Basel Tattoo and its participation in international tattoos over an extended period.
Brisbane Boys’ College, Scotch College Perth, Manly Warringah and Royal Victoria Regiment (Association) for their participation in the 2018 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Brisbane Boys’ College also competed in the World Pipe Band Championships.
Scots PGC Warwick for participation at the European Championships and performance tour of the Western Front,
The Scots College Sydney for participation in the 2018 Nova Scotia Tattoo and World Pipe Band Championships.
Perth Metro and Murrumba who competed in the World Pipe Band Championships
Scots School Albury and Perth Highland who competed in the Singapore South East Asia Championships.
President Chris Earl said: “The success of our pipe band movement begins in local communities and the achievements of these bands in performance, education and in raising the money to make dreams possible are an inspiration that must be saluted.
“These 14 bands have contributed many millions of dollars to local and overseas economies through their initiatives and are fine ambassadors for Pipe Bands Australia.”
