The Battle’s Over - Follow our interactive map
Hundreds of pipers across Australia are preparing for their role in the international commemoration The Battle’s Over for the Centenary of Armistice that ended fighting in World War One on 11 November 1918.
Bands and pipers have so far registered 100 locations for the Battle’s Over Tribute on 11 November – 5pm in NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania, 4.30pm in South Australia and the Northern Territory, 4pm in Queensland and 2pm in Perth. They will mark the exact time the Armistice was signed.
Massed bands have been organised for the Shrine of Remembrance Melbourne, Macquarie Wharf Hobart, Adelaide and Perth war memorials while in some suburbs and communities, bands are co-ordinating special services with their local RSLs.
Solo pipers are also among those registering to play The Battle’s O’er, the tune written at the end of World War One as a tribute to pipers who fell in action. Some communities will have several locations and bands and pipers who register receive an information kit and promotional material to raise awareness of their performance.
Pipe Bands Australia is being assisted by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in promotion of the commemoration.
An interactive map of locations across Australia will help chart the cities and communities where our pipers and bands will be performing, being updated through to 11 November. Visit this special link to view the map
