August wave on world stage
Australian bands are again taking to the international stage in August, including this month's World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
Pipe Bands Australia has extended best wishes to our nation's top bands Hawthorn and the Pipeband Club now arriving in Scotland to begin their contest lead up to the premier event on Glasgow Green on 16 and 17 August.
For Hawthorn, the current Australian Grade 2 champions, the trip is its first trip in a long and illustrious history while the Pipeband Club is returning after qualifying for the Grade 2 final two years ago.
Tasmania Police Pipe Band tonight begins the first of 25 performances of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo after an intense week of rehearsals. The band has appeared in REMT several times and is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary.
And over in France, City of Adelaide Pipe Band has arrived to participate in the famous Lorient Festival where they will join other Australian and international performers, including Australia Celtic rock group Claymore with current Australian Solo Piping Champion Josh Chandler in its lineup.
