Certificates recognise long service

January 2, 2019

Three veteran bandsmen were recognised on New Year’s Day by Pipe Bands Australia during the 158th Maryborough Highland Gathering with special presentations marking their 50-plus years of service to the band movement

St Arnaud pipe major Lin Postlethwaite has been with his band since 1962 while drum major Blair Michael joined the band in 1958 and between them have only missed a handful gatherings in Maryborough on New Year’s Day.

Bruce Duncan was a member of the local pipe band for more than 60 years and continues as an official on New Year’s Day. He is also part of the team preparing for the DIamond Jubilee Year Australian Pipe Band Championships being hosted by the highland society in April 2020.

A fourth veteran also performing on New Year's Day, Castlemaine’s Ian Wilson, received his certificate two years ago during that band’s 65th anniversary celebrations.

Pipe Bands Australia presents the special certificates to players who have contributed to the movement over more than 50 years.
