Pipe Bands Australia (PBA) is the peak body of piping and drumming in the country and strives to promote these interests as well as advance the surrounding Scottish culture within Australia. We rely almost exclusively on the goodwill of those members who voluntarily contribute their skills and time in support of those aims. We know that from within our membership ranks we have people with high levels of expertise and skills across a wide range of careers and community activities. PBA invites expressions of interest for the following three positions:
NATIONAL SECRETARY
PBA is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the vacant position of National Secretary and perform the duties as outlined in the Rules for Pipe Bands Australia Inc.
The position requires a person who is able to volunteer time, approximately 3-7 hours a week, to the association. The successful candidate will have proven organisational skills, a good working knowledge of the Australian pipe band community, and a track record in working with a similar organisation.
The role and responsibilities of the National Secretary include but are not limited to the following duties:
- Manage the daily flow of email correspondence in the association’s email account/s.
- Action other forms of correspondence.
- Convene and attend meetings in consultation with the president of the association.
- Ensuring that the business of the association meetings is accurately captured in the minutes
- Coordinate the timely completion and despatch of meeting papers as required.
- Managing enquiries of the association’s state branches and coordinating with the branches on matters of the association as required.
- Assist in adherence to PBA policy and procedure.
- Exercise due diligence in governance matters.
- Participate in the decision making of the National Management Committee (NMC).
- Other duties as directed by the NMC.
The selection process will include an on-line (zoom) interview with a selection panel. The appointment to this position will be made by the NMC with the input of the National Council. NMC and National Council may find it desirable to continue with the appoint an Assistant Secretary should there be any opportunity to do so

WEBMASTER
PBA is calling for expressions of interest from individuals who have the skills to become PBA Webmaster. The successful candidate will in the first instance, attend to the regular updating of our existing (WIX) website in accordance with broad ongoing editorial direction from PBA National Management Committee. Another early priority will be to assess the effectiveness of the current website in supporting PBA objectives. The webmaster will develop, articulate and make recommendations to Management Commitment that address the need for enhancement or possible replacement of the current website. The webmaster is also responsible for maintenance of all website front and back end functions including security, backup and disaster recovery, access management, mail services and the like. The webmaster will report directly to NMC.
The selection process will include an on-line (zoom) interview with a selection panel. The appointment to this position will be made by the NMC.

INSURANCE REVIEW PANEL
PBA is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join members of NMC on a sub-committee that will review the insurance environment that bands, the association and its branches operate in. The remit of the sub-committee is to help stakeholders make informed decisions regarding insurance moving forward as well as to investigate how PBA can add value to membership in this space by exploring blanket coverage of certain insurance types as well as helping bands avoid duplicate coverage.
Selection will be made by the NMC and may include a telephone interview.
