Welcome to the New Year.

I write to let all members of Pipe Bands Australia know of some significant changes that have occurred to the administration of the Association at the national level.

At last years’ AGM the national treasurer, Peter Felton advised that he would not be seeking re-appointment to that role, but that he was happy to cover the related duties until a suitable replacement was found.

I am happy to announce that we have now appointed a new treasurer, Michelle Haysom (TAS), and she assumed those duties at our recent Committee meeting.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Peter for his very significant contributions to the Association in his role as treasurer.  In no way is this an easy job, and Peter has worked tirelessly over the past few years to ensure that all the I’s have been dotted and Ts crossed.  His stewardship during this time has covered major changes to the way in which the finances of the Association are managed, and he has set in motion further changes that should be of significant benefit to the Branches and membership in general going forward.

Thankyou Peter for all that you have done, and all the best for the future.

I welcome Michelle to her new role and am pleased to announce that we have also secured the services of Lewis Hayward (ACT) as an assistant to her.  Lewis is designated as an assistant treasurer, but his main purpose is to primarily provide “backroom” support to Michelle as required.   On this basis I can assure members that the Association is in good hands from a financial point of view.

Michelle had previously been a member of NMC as the assistant secretary, and given her new role she has surrendered those duties.

In her stead, at the last NMC meeting Marielle Esplin (SA) was appointed and I would like to thank her for agreeing to step into the Committee arena.   I am pleased by the significant representation our smaller branches at the national level bolstered by these appointments.

I wish you all a safe, happy and prosperous 2024, and look forward to seeing many of you at this year’s Australian Pipe Band Championships in Maryborough.
