Alex has not just enjoyed a distinguished piping career that spans adjudicating, playing at every grade level, and competing as a soloist for more than 50 years – he has also been a proactive part of the ongoing success of pipe bands in Queensland as a long-serving member of the Pipe Bands Queensland and other organising bodies, including serving as secretary for the last 17 years.

Highlights of Alex’s piping career have included winning the Queensland Highland Pipers’ Society Open Piper of the Year trophy in 1981, and winning the Grade 1 New Zealand Championships in 1996 with St Andrews Pipe Band, of which he is a life member.

Alex is also a life member of Pipe Bands Australia and an Honoured Person (Du.A) of the Celtic Council of Australia for contributions to the Scottish community.
