Andrew is an accomplished solo and band player who has been playing since he was eight years old, and was trained by renowned pipers John MacKenzie, Athol Chalmers, Sandy Campbell and Andrew Wright. 

In Australia he has won many solo championships, including five Maclean Gold medals, and he placed consistently in the Scotland solo circuit in the 1990s. Andrew’s band history includes Vale of Athol (1991–2), Manawatu Scottish (2001–10), and Inveraray and District (2011–).

He is currently the Pipe Major of St Andrews Pipe Band in Brisbane (Grade 2), as well as Chairman of Pipe Bands Queensland, and the President of the Queensland Highland Pipers Society.
