The organisational and administrative structure of Pipe Bands Australia, mostly unchanged since establishment in 1960, will be reviewed following unanimous endorsement from councilors of a discussion paper tabled at the biennial conference in Melbourne last Saturday.
Expressions of interest for the structural review working group will open shortly and appointments made.
The working group under the leadership of the Principal Rules and Administration James Forsyth will prepare a green paper with discussion options and invite submissions from branches, bands and members before preparing a white paper with its final recommendations for consideration by national council.
The discussion paper noted “ … consultation with the broader membership will be absolutely necessary. It will provide them with the opportunity to articulate what they want to see for their membership and investment.”
The current structure of Pipe Bands Australia requires biennial meetings of council comprising two councilors from each branch and the college principals with a national management committee acting between meetings of council. Unless members of council, management committee members do not vote at council or conference meetings.
