Sandy presented with Hall of Fame award
At a special celebration to mark his 90th birthday yesterday, Sandy Campbell was presented with his Pipe Bands Australia Hall of Fame certificate.
The celebration attended by family and friends from across Australia was an appropriate occasion for Sandy to formally receive the recognition as one of 12 inaugural inductees into the Hall of Fame. Sandy had been unable to attend the recent Australian championships in Brisbane.
Sandy was for many years pipe major of Queensland Irish, a trailblazing contest and performance band in the 1970s and 1980s that won multiple Australian Grade 1 championships and forged the way for Australian bands competing overseas.
Among those attending the 90th birthday celebrations, appropriately on World Whisky Day, was fellow Hall of Fame inductee Sam Young who played under Sandy at Queensland Irish and made the presentation.
