Solo drumming championships

The syllabus for the the biennial Australian Solo Drumming Championships will be held in Canberra on Sunday 13 October has been released by the promoters, Canberra College of Piping and Drumming.

The championships will be held in the grounds of the Australian War Memorial.

Entries will close close on Friday 27 September. Competitors are required to enter events in their registered PBA solo grading but at the discretion of the conveners they will be allowed to enter events one grade higher.

Grades and requirements for the event, in conjunction with the ACT Solo Piping and Drumming Championships, are:

SNARE

PRACTICE PAD

Two parts of a Simple Time March. Competitor having played on the pad for less than 12 months.

NOVICE

Two parts of a Simple Time March. Competitor having played on the drum for less than 12 months

D GRADE

Four parts simple time march (can play 2x2 parts)

Four parts 6/8-time march (can play 2x2 parts)

C GRADE

Four parts 2/4 march, into a minimum of two parts each of Strathspey and Reel

Two or more parts of Hornpipe into two or more parts of Jig

B GRADE

March Strathspey & Reel each four parts or more

Hornpipe and Jig each four parts

A GRADE

March Strathspey & Reel each four parts or more

Hornpipe and Jig each four parts.

TENOR

D GRADE

Four parts of Simple Time March (can play 2x2 parts)

Four parts 6/8-time march (can play 2x2 parts)

C GRADE

Four parts 2/4 March, into a minimum of two parts each of Strathspey and Reel
