FEDERAL BACKING FOR OUR VP75 TRIBUTE

The VP 75 – Our Piping Tribute commemorative project of Pipe Bands Australia for the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two on 15 August has received Federal Government support.

A $2000 grant has been awarded under the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service program following an application by Pipe Bands Australia. More than $2.2 million in funding was provided in the latest round of the Saluting Their Service commemorative grants program.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said the projects and activities would play an important role in educating future generations about the service and sacrifice of Australian service men and women, especially as the 75th anniversary of the end of the World War Two on 15 August approached.

“Australian service men and women in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations for over a century have played a role in shaping the nation. These commemorations, projects and activities ensure their story is captured for generations to come,” Mr Chester said.

“These grants will help community groups and organisations continue their important work in commemorating our service personnel and support those projects and activities which promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service.”

Federal Government backing for the Pipe Bands Australia project will also ensure that all participants receive a printed special commemorative certificate following their performance of the tune specially written for the occasion by Mark Saul titled VP 75 – Lest We Forget.

A drum score is also be written to accompany pipers in the 9.30am performances around Australia on VP Day. Pipe Bands Australia has also had pipers across North America register for the tribute since registrations opened just over a week ago.

Bands and pipers wishing to participate in VP 75 – Our Piping Tribute can register at www.pipebandsaustralia.com.au/events. A recording of the tune is also available on the website.
