Pipe Bands Tasmania

Pipe Bands have been operating in Tasmania since at least 1900. In Launceston, the Caledonian Society and the St Andrews Pipers formed the now oldest still-existing Tasmanian band - St Andrew's Caledonian Pipe Band - in 1933.
Other pipe bands currently operating in Tasmania (in order of formation) are City of Hobart Highland, Burnie Highland, Derwent Scottish, Scotch Oakburn College, Tasmania Police and City of Launceston RSL.
The Tasmania Police Pipe Band have performed on multiple occasions at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and St Andrews Caledonian Pipe Band have competed twice at the World Pipe Band Championships.
Pipe Bands Tasmania conducts a full-band contest annually each February in conjunction with the Richmond Highland Gathering and a 3-round solo and miniband competition in May, July and September. An annual workshop weekend is held each October. Pipe Bands Tasmania actively promotes these events and the activities of members and member bands on the Pipe Bands Tasmania Facebook page
